I have had this conflict at many points. Whether to do something that makes me feel good right now or something that keeps me happy for days to come. Whether to be the jolly grasshopper or the slogging ant. And so I found
this pretty interesting. Not that I gained tremendously useful insights but it was quite an interesting read. And it had some cool links there!

This is a remarkable line of research. There's a Ted talk along similar lines, and there's more research about the possessions-vs-experiences dynamic. Being happy isn't what we think it is, it would seem :)
I saw the Ted talk and that made my thoughts a lot clearer. Our doings should be precariously balanced to 'feel' happy and 'be' happy, I guess! Nice stuff.
Here's another one worth a read

This one claims you're better off spending money on experiences rather than possessions.
Yeah, that feels right. I guess, the role of the so-called 'material' possessions is give a sense of security. Once that is there, what would fetch pleasure would be newer, invigorating experiences.
I wonder how relationships fit in this picture. They are perhaps a case where experiences add up to something worthwhile.
