tell me.

Is it better to try and fail than do nothing ?
yes.
but what is the difference if we land up in the same position!
at least, you did something .

Hmm, someone tell me, So what ?
Finally, isn't it all about some kind of an ego trip ?

hmmm....
well i am person from analog background... :P so i am gng to answer in analog fashion... ;)
the problem here is looking at the act of doing something with the expectation of a binary result - success or failure. Is that all that matters is the question to be pondered about... Because on many occasions, partial gain is still substantial! So the moral of the story is to aim higher, and give it a shot, because then, even a delta is humongous.. :)
Well, of course, at the end of it all, you need to come to realize the fact that life is pointless in its entirety. Then there always is the question of why about the whole existence? -- including this blog --- why am I reading it and commenting on it... :P
Peace be with all...

Isn't it simply the satisfaction that is borne out of knowing that it was unattainable (assuming you did all you could)? The avoidance of the irritating - "What if ... ?"

Ever consider that inaction is action too?

@Sridhar,
Yeah, like I always say existential depression is the only real 'feeling'.
I agree partly with what you say about tiny bits of impact but that doesn't satisfy me completely, somehow.

@ Aravind,
what if you are able to assess how much of a change you can bring in apriori ? And you see that you can't do too big a difference? Would fighting a battle that you know you're going to lose is any better than not fighting at all ?

@anonymous,
That's a very interesting thought! Care to leave your name next time you're here ? :)

@haddock,
What's it then ? Thanks for coming in here!
